The Spartan Brigade Memorial will be located at the home of the 4-25th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), Fort Richardson, Alaska. The memorial will consist of a brick walk way flanked on each side by three Alaskan Fir trees, representing the six battalions of the Spartan Brigade. The walkway leading to the monument site will be surrounded by six birch trees. Around the site, two park benches will create a place for reflection and peace.
The monument itself will be a black granite pyramid. One side will list the names of our fallen Spartan Heroes. The second side will be a brief history of the Spartan Brigade since it’s activation 14 July 2006. The final side will depict three ancient Spartan warriors standing upon a hill, guiding a single modern Spartan on their journey to the heavens. The monument itself will be separated from the brick walk by grass, signifying that although these heroes are out of our physical reach, they are still in our hearts.
We plan to have the granite memorial complete and placed in a temporary location on post by the Spring of 2008. The permanent site will be created for the memorial upon completion of the new Brigade Headquarters building. |
